Geert Veneklaas has been playing the piano since he was six years old. With his broad musical interest and the urge to understand how music works, he seemed destined to work in education after his training as a music teacher, but instead he followed his heart to become a keyboard player in a rockband. Despite a radio hit, listings in the Dutch charts and touring the club circuit, Geert put an end to his career as a pop musician, but continued to develop himself as a composer and arranger in his homestudio. This resulted, among other things, in a score for a short film that was screened at several international film festivals.
Geert’s ambition has recently taken flight by focusing on composing modern classical piano compositions, and thereby returning to a part of his roots. As a result of this he released his first compositions ‘Reinvention’ and ‘Bittersweet’ in 2021, ahead of an albumrelease in 2022.
Classifying Geert Veneklaas’ music into a genre would result in something like ‘contemporary classical’ or ‘neoclassical’. Think of Ludovico Einaudi, Max Richter, Joep Beving and so on.

Geert Veneklaas zat al op zijn zesde dagelijks achter de piano. Zijn toekomst leek na een opleiding tot muziekdocent in het onderwijs te liggen maar hij ging daar waar zijn hart lag: de popmuziek. Ondanks een hit en meerdere tips, touren door het clubcircuit en flinke media-aandacht bleek het lastig om als toetsenist van een succesvolle band de kost te verdienen. Geert zette een punt achter zijn leven als popmuzikant maar bleef zich -naast zijn daytime job- ontwikkelen, als componist en arrangeur in zijn homestudio. Dit resulteerde o.a. in een score voor een short film die vertoond werd op meerdere internationale filmfestivals.
Geert’s ambitie heeft recent een vlucht genomen door zich te focussen op het componeren van neo-klassieke pianocomposities en daarmee terug te keren naar zijn roots. Momenteel werkt hij aan zijn eerste album, dat naar verwachting eind 2022 zal verschijnen.
